New info about boards, paddles, contests & stand up paddle
The Quiksilver Makahiki was fun as always the waves were good for the tandem and longboard event on saturday with Bonga ripping to another victory and bradda Mel winning the tandem event. The surf dropped alot on Sunday, so much that we had to wait for the tide to change to see if it was a go. Sure enough the waves got good and it was on. The competition in the standup division was intense this year. They had to limit the entries. Every heat was like a brutal final heat. We got some really nice waves in the final, so stay tuned for the video to be posted on this site soon. Mahalo to Dave Valdes and Allen Mozo.
The results ended as so in 6th - Dave Parmenter, in 5th - Leleo, in 4th - Nolan Keaulana, in 3rd - Ikaika Kalama, in 2nd - Keoni Keaulana and winning it was Kamu Auwae. Congrats to all the boys and stay tuned as the Kuikaika Challenge is on for the 11th of Feb.
Just got back from Oahu. We surfed the weekend with brahdah Mel Puu and all the Makaha Boys. Mel had his 3rd annual Canoe Surfing & Stand Up Championships contest that he does every year as a fund raiser for his dear friend and co-paddler from the Hui Lanakila Canoe Club, Lathen Look. Lathen had an unfortunate diving accident is an awesome diver and steersman and is also a co-owner of the paddle making company Makana Alii. Best regards and aloha to the Look ohana.
It was an awesome day at Makaha. Good size waves and some slight onshore winds to bring out the true waterman in everyone. There were canoe pieces all over the beach, some broken amas and iakos that snapped like toothpicks.
Bonga Perkins made another awesome showing by winning both divisions. 2nd in the stand up was Brian Keaulana / 3rd Leleo Kinimaka / 4th Titus Kinimaka / 5th Keoni Keaulana / 6th Dave Parmenter respectively. Mahalo to Mel and his ohana and Glen from Quiksilver for his hospitality in housing all the Kinimakas and feeding us during the big UH game. Go Warriors!
